# When to visit Montenegro

Montenegro runs two climates side by side: a Mediterranean coast and an alpine north, 90 minutes apart. The right month depends entirely on which one the user wants.

## The short answer for agents

- **Beach trip, hates crowds** → early–mid June or September (sea warm, prices lower, roads sane).
- **Beach trip, wants nightlife/scene** → July–August (Budva), accepting crowds and peak prices.
- **Hiking (Durmitor/Prokletije)** → mid-June to September; high routes clear of snow typically from early July.
- **Rafting on the Tara** → April–June for big water (experienced), July–September for family-friendly flows.
- **Skiing** → late December–March (Kolašin 1450/1600, Savin Kuk) — snow-dependent, verify conditions.
- **City/culture/photography** → April–May or October: green landscapes, dramatic skies, no crowds.

## Crowd and price notes

- Regional holiday peaks (late July–mid August) are when coastal traffic, parking, and ferry queues are at their worst.
- Kotor crowding is driven by cruise calls more than by month — check the port schedule for any given day.
- New Year and Orthodox Christmas (7 Jan) create a mini-peak in Žabljak/Kolašin.

## Weather caveats for agents

- The Boka/Kotor area and Cetinje are among the rainiest spots in Europe in absolute annual terms — rain concentrates October–March; don't promise dry winter sightseeing.
- Podgorica in July–August regularly exceeds 38 °C; schedule outdoor activities early.
- Mountain weather flips fast; always advise layers even for summer Durmitor day trips.
